Homeschooling
The following is a collection of homeschooling resources that I have found helpful. My kids are young so my main focus so far has been on developing a good teaching relationship with them and finding a good literacy and math curriculum. I recommend the following:
- Hold Onto Your Kids: this book is helpful for developing a good teaching relationship, which is the foundation of everything.
- Oz Nova's website: the articles on homeschooling and teaching young children reading are particularly helpful. Oz also runs a high quality Discord for parents interested in homeschooling.
- Katherine Nova substack: useful curriculum overview.
- Modulo: they have an encyclopedic overview of different curriculums, logistical advice, and a good podcast.
- My raw notes on teaching my eldest daughter to read: every kid is unique and I found it helpful reading about others experiences teaching, perhaps you can find some insights here for your own children.
- Homeschool Taxonomy: a way to think aboug different kinds of homeschooling.
For reading, we used 100 Easy Lessons and supplemented with Khan Academy Kids. We are mostly following the curriculum that Oz describes on his website. For math, we used Kitchen Table Math and are primarily using Beast Academy right now.
